Toilet Leak.

Many homeowners experience toilet leaks. It’s actually a common occurrence in many homes. This is a common occurrence in the United States and many other countries.

If left unrepaired a toilet can leak up to 90 gallons a day and up to 33,000 gallons per year. This happens when the rubber flapper that is connected to the chain that’s used to flush the toilet wears out over time.

You should replace these flappers an average of every two years to prevent leaking from occurring. Depending on what type of toilet that you have you can just replace the flapper or the whole flushing unit which consists of the chain, the flushing mechanism, and the flapper.

Burst Pipes.

Frozen pipes if unthawed can burst causing major problems. Whenever temperatures fall too low you run the risk of pipes bursting.

To avoid this happening always ensure there is ample heat in your home in the winter months. If pipes extend over windows where cold air can seep through make sure those windows are properly sealed to prevent cold air from seeping through and freezing the pipes.

In the event, the pipes freeze you can thaw them by placing a blow dryer directly on the frozen pipe for a few hours to ensure the pipe is thawed.

Leaky Appliances.

Leaky appliances are another common occurrence. Washing machines and dishwashers normally have more frequent issues as a result of rubber hoses failing. In the case of washing machines, it depends on if you have a front-load or top-load washer. This will determine where the links are originating from.

If it’s a front load washer and it’s leaking from underneath this can mean there may be some damage to the seams of the outer drum. The drum would need to be replaced in cases like this.

If it’s an issue with a top-loading washer leaking there may be a blockage in the overflow tube or it may be tilted. To fix it just clear the blockage which in most cases is the result of too much detergent being added so you will need to clean the detergent out.
